A Few Small Updates

Since our last trip and a number of photo filled posts, we haven't had a lot to write about, so I just wanted to post a couple of small updates regarding the blog. First, in order to bring Charlotte's Corner up to speed, we added 16 new photos, covering April and May. This brings the total to 88.

Secondly, I have moved the Micro-Blog section to the top of the page. This is where you will see more frequent updates throughout the day coming from my Twitter feed. Click the Follow Me link if you'd like to find out more.

Watch for our May slideshow coming soon!

Leavenworth Trip: Day Two And Three

Our weekend trip to Leavenworth, WA is over, and it's back to the regular grind starting tomorrow. Here we bring you a report on day two and three, along with some video. Unfortunately, we couldn't take photos of everything we did, so you'll just have to go there yourself and find out how nice of a place it is.

The sign as you enter Leavenworth from the west.

Scenery from town.

The town is nestled in the mountains so the scenery is beautiful. We had amazing weather all three days, and I suspect that is the usual for the area.

Welcome to Leavenworth!

Charlotte snacking on a lemon.

This is actually from day one, when we ate lunch at a place that serves a variety of sausages and a vast array of toppings (around 10 types of mustard for starters). Once Charlotte got ahold of the lemon, she wouldn't let go. A little sour to offset all that sweetness!

Swiss Singers / Yodelers

Walking through town, we came across this group who were extremely entertaining. See the following video, and if you understand German, it's a bonus!

Charlotte's first trip to the swimming pool!

That's right, on Charlotte's birthday, she also got to go swimming in a pool, and she had an amazingly fun time. We had this floating tube for kids which made it a lot of fun for everyone.

Splish, splash!

After swimming, we took the kids and went out for Italian food. The place we went to was called Visconti's, and the food was great. We started off with a pound of clams in a tasty butter sauce, and a side (probably a pound as well) of asparagus, grilled to perfection and perfectly seasoned. We topped it off by splitting an order of their Spaghettini and meatballs.

This morning, we got up, packed up our stuff, and went for breakfast. We headed out shortly after that, but not before stopping by Starbucks for two Venti Shaken Black Iced Tea Lemonades.

And later that afternoon on the way back to Canada, we stopped by McDonalds for a quick bite.

Thanks to our friends, Martin and Dianna for the great weekend and for organizing the trip. I think everyone had a good time and would be happy to go back again sometime.

Charlotte's First Birthday!

Happy Birthday, Charlotte! We took photos from each month and put them together here for your viewing enjoyment.

Charlotte's first 12 months

It is amazing how much she has changed in a year and she's really getting to be a big girl now.

Here's a family photo that we took this morning as well.

We've really enjoyed our first year with Charlotte, and look forward to this summer and her upcoming accomplishments like taking her first steps.

Leavenworth Trip: Day 1

We are on a weekend trip to Leavenworth, WA with Martin and Dianna. The weather is absolutely beautiful and we are really enjoying our time here so far. It's been a long day and it's almost midnight, but we wanted to bring you a photo update on a day by day basis. Enjoy!

The drive from BC is about 4 hours. On the way, we stopped by Starbucks and bought Charlotte her very first Starbucks drink. I guess she's old enough now that she's turning 1 year old!

Charlotte's "kids vanilla steamer"

We arrived at our hotel to find it somewhat plain on the outside, but really great on the inside.

The eating area

The suite has two rooms, a full kitchen, fireplace, two bathrooms, a balcony, free wireless internet, and more. We are very impressed, although this is what you get when you pay for luxury accommodation!

We went for a walk to a nearby German hot dog place, and met up with this friendly guy on the way.

Baaahhh!!

Back at the hotel, we went for a swim in the pool, had pizza for supper, and then went for a round of mini-golf.

Having fun on the course.

Martin and Phillip, a winning duo.

Past Charlotte's bedtime! She was a bit unhappy here sitting on a large rock.
Nice teeth, though!

We closed out the day with a game of Rook and a few snacks. Everyone's in bed, looking forward to another big day tomorrow.

Charlotte's First Birthday Party

Charlotte's 1st birthday party was held yesterday afternoon. She won't actually be one for another week, but since Colin was in town, we decided to have it a bit early. We kept things small and had a few friends and family over for some cupcakes and dessert.

Everyone had a great time, and Charlotte got some really nice gifts. Here are some photos of the event!

Charlotte's birthday gifts.

A few of the gifts aren't shown here as they were too large to fit on the table, or we received them after the photo was taken.

The cupcakes Natasha made (and decorated) for the kids.

Natasha spent a few hours on these which not only looked amazing but were gobbled up by the kids within minutes.

Happy Birthday, Charlotte!

Charlotte, unlike most kids her age, wouldn't touch the cupcake. We fed her a few bites, but there was no classic messy baby photo to be had.

Princess Charlotte

I have no idea how they got her to pose like this...

The "Swing Along Castle" we bought her.

Charlotte giving it a test drive.

That about sums it up. Watch for a post next week for her actual one year old birthday post!

Sushi Feast

We went for some all-you-can-swallow sushi yesterday at Shabusen and ate a ton of tasty sushi and BBQ meat. Here's a photo of some tuna sushi which we didn't order (it was meant to be sashimi) but I gobbled up anyway.

Mmm... tuna!

A Day In Vancouver

Since our last post it has been very busy, especially since Natasha's brother, Colin, arrived to visit with us for a week. Yesterday we made a trip into Vancouver to see a few sights, have some food, and just get out a bit. We bring you seven photos that encompass our day on the road.

Our first stop, Falafel King!

Charlotte is an excellent traveler.

Colin's first visit to the Pacific

After Falafel King, we toured through Stanley Park, visiting a couple of highlights like the beach, and Prospect Point. Unfortunately, the hollow tree is blocked off due to the damage it took two years ago so we only saw it but couldn't stop.

The long weekend is just beginning, and we should have more photos in the next couple of days!

April 2009 Photos

Today I uploaded the April photos to an album. Click here to view the slideshow. There are lots of great shots of Charlotte. It seems like that's all we take pictures of these days... but she's so cute it's hard to resist! Enjoy!

May Showers, I Hope Not

Welcome to May, 2009. We have had some decent weather here in BC the last while, but this week has been the best so far. Blue skies, warm temperatures, and more of the same in the forecast. Spring is well on its way, with leaves on most trees now, and everything flowering nicely. You will notice a new blog header today, using a photo taken by our friend Martin, as well as the one below.

Enjoy the Spring everyone... Summer's on its way.
