Update: Charlotte's Hospital Stay in February

Charlotte Polka Dots

As most of you know, back in February Charlotte was in the hospital for a few days with a Urinary Tract Infection and Dehydration (to read about that click here). At the time the Pediatrician decided to order some tests to be certain that there were no abnormalities in Charlotte's kidney and bladder area that would be causing a UTI. While we were in the hospital she ordered a Renal Ultrasound. The results came back normal. After being discharged from the hospital I was contacted for another test that would be done at a later date.

Charlotte had the VCU (Voiding Cysto-Urethrogram) done this last Friday. After we arrived they put a catheter in Charlotte, then in the X-ray room they inserted isotopes through the catheter which would show up on the X-ray. The purpose was to take images of her bladder while she was voiding to make sure that the bladder was emptying properly (and that urine was not going anywhere but where it was supposed to go). It was a bit of an exhausting procedure for Charlotte and I and we were happy when it was over.

This morning I received a call from the Pediatrician's office and am happy to report that Charlotte's test results for the VCU were normal. She has no abnormalities! I am so thankful to the Lord. We were praying that she would not have to suffer repeat UTI's or go on any type of medication as they had warned us this could happen if there were some problem.

Thank you for all your prayers!

Someone Broke My Window

Sometime Friday night, the driver side window of my car got smashed. Hard to say why, as nothing seemed missing, or disturbed at all... could have been totally random.

The broken window

We took the car to Apple Auto Glass, and it should be repaired and ready to go on Monday. Guess it's not the worst thing that could have happened, but it is still somewhat distressing. I might have to consider not parking it on the roadway, if I can find the space in our garage to park two cars.

Charlotte Turns 11 Months Old

Here is our last monthly post before Charlotte turns the big 1 year old! She has been really active these days, walking along furniture, playing with her more advanced toys, and waving bye-bye. Enjoy these photos, taken today during our nice sunny afternoon.

Friday Chess Puzzle

Today's chess puzzle comes from my last tournament game. This is not a mate-in-three type of puzzle, only a position to analyze and decide what you think the best move for white is.

White to move

To help along, I will give my basic thoughts on the position. White has much more active pieces. Note black's two rooks sitting passively in the corner. White is putting a ton of pressure down the d-file, threatening to capture the black Queen should the pawn in between them move. Lastly, black's King sits out in the open. Also don't miss the fact that white's Knight is under attack and undefended.

How should white proceed? In my case, I missed a most critical move, lost the initiative, and eventually the game. A disappointing blow after playing a great game, but a lesson learned nonetheless. Round three is on Monday.

Blogger Silence

Hello readers! We are sorry that things have been so quiet on the blog the last week or so. We've been busy, spent Easter weekend out of town, and haven't had time to keep up with our online presence at all. However, it is not for lack of topics. We have photos and video of our trip and of Charlotte, a report on my last tournament chess game, our belated slideshow for March, and more.

Stick with us, and watch for a few more posts in the following days to get us back on track.

Happy Easter!

We wish everyone a happy Easter weekend, and hope you enjoy your time spent with family and friends. We are on a weekend trip south of Seattle, spending a few days with friends. If the weather is nice, we'll be going out to the zoo and other things around the area. If it's rainy, we'll stay inside and play board games.

We'll have internet access for most of the time we're here, so you can email us, and we'll keep up with any of your Twitter updates.

Have a good weekend, everyone!

Costo Fast Food Secret

Besides all the great stuff you can buy at Costco, they have a very tasty and affordable fast food menu. Pizza, hotdogs ($1.99 including a drink), poutine, and more. The only drawback is, they don't take anything but cash.

However, while visiting there yesterday after work to pick up a few things, the guy in front of me ordered his food at the till! It shows up on the receipt and all you have to do is pick it up. Amazing! This is obviously not an advertised fact as we've been going to Costco for years without knowing this trick.

So, if you're hungry and don't have cash, don't worry, just pay at the till!
