The Hospital Tour

Last night after work, Natasha and I went down to the hospital for a tour of the birthing and maternity wards. We may not have any experience in all of this, but at least we know where we'll be going when the baby decides to make its grand entrance, and start the whole thing off on the right foot.

The tour was extremely informative. We got to see the birthing rooms, which were very nicely set up, better than I expected in fact. They went through the various stages of the labor process, and discussed the various pain control methods that can be used. The amenities available are impressive too, and appear to really make the whole thing happen as comfortably as possible. We also got to see the maternity ward, where you go after the baby is born. Nothing remarkable there, although it's nice enough and will be just fine.

Overall, I think the tour made us a little more comfortable with the whole process, as we won't be walking into things without knowing anything that's going on. As the support person, I am concerned with the logistics of the whole process, and I feel more prepared now to handle things as they come up. Since there isn't much I can do, really, I feel better knowing as much as I can and being able to make decisions based on the information I have.

In other related updates, there is only eight weeks to go until the expected due date. Getting really close now, and we're starting to feel the full realization of what we're about to get ourselves into! We are prepared as best as we can though, and have the nursery set up and ready to go. There are a few things we still need, but the basics are there. Now, all we have to do is wait!

What hospital are you delivering at? Are you taking prenatal classes too? I remember doing those things. It was fun! Its good to be informed as much as you can for the big event! We took prenatal classes offered at the hospital here. It was informative and glad we did. It was interesting to hear the old wives tales regarding pregnancy and babies. The instructor went through a big list of them and saying which were totally off and some that were somewhat true. I had never heard most of them and couldnt help but snicker. Some were way out there, and I said people actually believe this??
Yup!
